Solarsunlabs publishes decision guides about solar power, batteries and home energy. Solar decisions involve real money — a system is a five-figure purchase and a twenty-five year commitment — so this page sets out how our articles are researched, written, reviewed and corrected. If we ever fall short of it, we want you to be able to hold us to it.
What we publish, and what we do not
Every article is written to answer a specific question a homeowner, installer or investor is actually asking: what something costs, how long it lasts, whether it pays back, what fails first, and what to check before signing. We do not publish news roundups, press releases, vendor announcements or sponsored write-ups presented as editorial.
We do not accept payment to review a product favourably, to include a brand in a comparison, or to place a link inside an article. If that ever changes, it will be disclosed on this page first.
How we research
We prefer primary sources, in this order:
- Government and laboratory data — the U.S. Department of Energy, NREL, EIA, and national standards bodies for degradation rates, irradiance figures and cost benchmarks.
- Manufacturer datasheets and warranty documents — for specifications, tolerances and coverage limits, read directly rather than quoted from a retailer.
- Standards and code — IEC and UL test standards, and national electrical codes, for anything touching safety or installation.
- Utility tariff documents — for net metering, export rates and time-of-use structures, because these vary enormously by region.
Where we use a figure, we say what it is: a national average, a laboratory result under standard test conditions, or a typical range observed in the field. These three things are not interchangeable, and treating them as though they are is the most common way solar content misleads people.
Numbers, ranges and uncertainty
Solar performance depends on location, roof, shading, tariff and installer quality. We publish ranges rather than false precision, and we state the assumptions behind any calculation. Our calculators show their working so you can substitute your own figures rather than trusting ours.
Prices, incentives and tariffs change. Any cost or incentive figure is tied to the year it applies to, and articles carry a visible last-updated date.
Editorial independence
Articles are not shown to manufacturers, installers or advertisers before publication. Advertising is sold programmatically and advertisers have no say in what we cover or what we conclude. No commercial relationship has ever been a condition of coverage.
Advertising and affiliate disclosure
This site is funded by display advertising. Ads are served by third-party networks and are labelled as advertisements. We do not control which specific advertisers appear, and an ad appearing next to an article is not an endorsement of that advertiser by us.
Where an article contains an affiliate link, it is disclosed within that article. Affiliate arrangements never determine our recommendation or ranking.
Updates and corrections
We review high-traffic guides at least annually, and sooner when a tariff, incentive or standard changes materially. Substantive updates change the last-updated date on the article.
If we get something wrong, we correct it. Factual errors are fixed promptly, and where a correction changes the substance of a recommendation we note the change at the foot of the article rather than editing it silently.
Found an error? Tell us at Contact Us and point to the specific claim. We would much rather be corrected than be wrong.
What this site is not
Solarsunlabs is an independent publisher. We are not an installer, a broker, a lender or a licensed financial adviser, and nothing here is personalised financial, legal, electrical or tax advice. See our Disclaimer for the full statement.
