Solarsunlabs is written and edited by Muhammet Çay. This page exists so you know who is behind the numbers you are reading, and on what basis you should trust them.

What I am, and what I am not

I am a researcher and an editor. I am not a solar installer, an electrician, a structural engineer or a licensed financial adviser, and no article on this site carries a professional sign-off. I think that is worth saying at the top rather than burying it, because a lot of solar content is written by people with something to sell and a credential implied rather than stated.

What I actually do is narrower and, I think, more useful: read the primary documents, do the arithmetic, and write it up in plain language with every source named and linked so you can check the original instead of taking my word for it.

Where the numbers come from

  • U.S. Department of Energy and NREL — degradation rates, irradiance figures, installed-cost benchmarks.
  • Manufacturer datasheets and warranty documents — read in full, not quoted from a retailer listing. The warranty exclusions are usually where the real answer is.
  • IEC and UL test standards — for anything touching mechanical load, fire safety or electrical performance.
  • Utility tariff filings — because net metering and export rates vary enormously and national averages hide that.

Where a figure is a laboratory result under standard test conditions, I say so. Where it is a national average, I say that instead. Those two things are not interchangeable, and treating them as if they were is the most common way solar writing misleads people.

Independence

I do not sell solar systems, generate installer leads, or take payment for favourable coverage. This site is funded by display advertising, which is chosen automatically by ad networks rather than by me. No manufacturer or advertiser sees an article before it is published. The full standard is in the Editorial Policy.

Other things I publish

Solarsunlabs is part of a small group of independent sites I run, mostly single-handedly:

Away from publishing I run Sepetzone, a small 3D-printing studio in Istanbul. The habit of reading a datasheet properly before believing it comes largely from making physical things.

Correct me

Tariffs change, incentives expire, and equipment that was excellent three years ago is now mid-range. If you find a figure that has aged badly or a claim that does not hold up, tell me which claim and I will check it, fix it, and say that I did. That last part matters: silent edits are how a site quietly stops being trustworthy.
