Solarsunlabs is an independent publisher covering solar power, battery storage and home energy. We write the guides we wanted to find when we started researching this ourselves: specific, numerate, and honest about what is uncertain.

A rooftop solar system is a five-figure purchase with a twenty-five year horizon, sold largely by people paid on commission. Most of what is written about it online is either a brochure or a lead-generation form wearing a blog post. Our aim is narrower and more useful: to explain what something actually costs, how long it actually lasts, what fails first, and what to check before you sign anything.

Who runs this site

Solarsunlabs is founded and edited by Muhammet Çay, who researches and writes the guides published here and is responsible for everything on the site, including its mistakes. He is a researcher and editor rather than an installer or engineer, and says so plainly on his author page. Corrections and questions go directly to him via Contact Us.

We are not an installer, a lead broker, a lender or a licensed adviser. We sell nothing and we quote nothing. That independence is the point: we have no reason to talk you into a system, or out of one.

How we work

Our figures come from primary sources wherever possible — U.S. Department of Energy and NREL data, manufacturer datasheets and warranty documents read in full, IEC and UL test standards, and utility tariff filings. We publish ranges rather than false precision, we say whether a number is a laboratory result or a field average, and we date anything that changes.

Articles are never shown to manufacturers or advertisers before publication, and no coverage has ever been conditional on a commercial relationship. The full standard we hold ourselves to is set out in our Editorial Policy.

What we cover

The site is organised into eight topic guides, each collecting everything we have written on that decision:

How this site is funded

Solarsunlabs is funded by display advertising. Ads are served programmatically by third-party networks, are labelled as advertisements, and are chosen by those networks rather than by us — an ad appearing beside an article is not an endorsement. Advertisers have no influence over what we cover or what we conclude. Where an article contains an affiliate link, it is disclosed in that article.

This is a deliberate choice. Advertising keeps every guide free to read and keeps us out of the lead-selling business, where your contact details become the product.

Tell us when we are wrong

Solar data ages badly. Tariffs change, incentives expire, and equipment that was excellent three years ago is now mid-range. If you find a figure that is out of date or a claim that does not hold up, we want to know — point us at the specific claim via Contact Us and we will check it and correct it.

Before acting on anything here, please read our Disclaimer. Nothing on this site is personalised financial, tax, legal or electrical advice, and anything involving high-voltage DC or your roof belongs with a licensed professional.
